Agrivoltaics Bill Signing in Aldie

On 17 June, Governor Spanberger held a bill signing at the Piedmont Environmental Council’s Roundabout Farm in Aldie for a codified definition of agrivoltaics. Defined as agriculture that operates in and around solar power generation, the new bill along with several others signed by the governor, sets the stage for how agriculture can be at the forefront of electricity generation in the state of Virginia.

Virginia Farm Bureau worked closely with PEC on the bills, which were sponsored by Senator Russet Perry and Delegate John McAuliff.

PEC’s agrivoltaics site in Aldie is the first agrivoltaics site in the state. As PEC’s Senior Energy and Climate Advisor Ashish Kapoor said, “This is a critical step for “farmer forward” agrivoltaics and sets the foundation for future incentives and well developed projects – from integrating solar with specialty crops to cattle grazing under panels. It was a sunny day for agrivoltaics in Virginia – and beyond.”
